UNW members working at the EKati Diamond Mine will be on strike as of 6 AM tomorrow morning. President of the UNW Todd Parsons says after BHP Billiton refused to negotiate a fair first collective agreement. Parsons adds this will definitely have a negative affect in our community. “I personally believe it’s going to have a devastating impact on the Northern Communities, which; we are all well aware of the support in the north for ourselves and the disrespect we’re seeing from BHP and the fact that they won’t negotiate a fair and equitable first collective agreement is nothing but devastating.” Regional Vice President of the P-S-A-C Jean François Des Laurier says it also adds insult to injury by using replacement workers to operate the mine.
