The Minister of Health and Social Services, Sandy Lee, says Stanton Territorial Hospital has offered what it can and it will be helpful to kids in the region who need non-emergency dental surgery. Hay River and Inuvik are two other regional centres offering the services. Lee says the situation in Hay River has only been functional for two months, but it’s addressing a backlog that had been building up. “The reason why we had a backlog was that unless the situation was emergency, they weren’t being sent out. Not having this has caused a backlog, now having it is clearing the backlog and the children are getting those dental surgeries.” Lee says Stanton Hospital will do what it can to help with the backlog here, but some cases may need to be transferred to Hay River.
